The Cavalry FC Have a 2nd Half Surge to Keep the Clubs’ Win Streak Alive

Bryan-College Station, Texas (June 11, 2022)- After nearly a week break from the action, the Cavalry FC faced off against the Albion Royals at Edible Field for their 5th game of the 2022 USL2 season. After falling behind 1-0 in the first half, the Cavalry charged in the second half. A goal from right winger Aaron McNally in the 48th minute and from striker Ethan Stevenson in the 69th minute gave the Cavalry FC a 2-1 victory over the AHFC Royals for the clubs’ 4th win in a row.

Except for the Royals’ goal at the 13th-minute mark of the game from Matthew Wrobel, the Cavalry defense gave up very few chances to AHFC, especially in the 2nd half of the match. The Royals only had three shots on goal throughout the entire game, all of which came in the first half. Cavalry goalkeeper Niklas Neumann had four saves in the 1st half and was truly never tested again in the later 45 minutes of the game.

The Cavalry, on the other hand, had a great offensive scheme throughout the game, tallying up 13 shots, but just couldn’t find the back of the net on most of their attacks. Royals keeper Dominic Nascimben had his best game of the season, with eight saves on the night, four in each half.

McNally had an incredible run with the ball from midfield to score the Cavalry’s first goal of the game, off an assist from defenseman Thomas Bruley. McNally launched a screamer to the bottom left corner of the goal, soaring just past the AHFC keeper, from just outside of the penalty area.

A beautiful cross from the right-wing courtesy of Joe Restani set up Stevenson to score Brazos Valley’s 2nd goal of the evening and give them the one goal they needed to finish the game in the win column. After receiving the Restani cross just inside the box, Stevenson showed off his speed and touch, beating out Nascimben to the right corner and scoring an easy goal in the 69th minute.

After the game, Cavalry FC Head Coach Sean Pierce spoke on just how important it was that, even after falling behind 1-0 in the first half, the team stayed confident in themselves and knew a goal was going to come their way.

“It was frustrating at first, especially because we know about the abilities our players have. As time went on we were still confident we could get goals.” said Coach Pierce.

“The good thing with our team is we have a lot of depth, a lot of quality, and a lot of positive guys so we just kind of injected life into the game, and that’s what saw us through” Coach Pierce said when asked about what he thought was the main contributor to the 2nd half comeback from his squad.

The Cavalry FC are back at Edible Field on Friday, June 17th, to face Houston FC, who gave the Cavalry their only loss of the season back on opening night on May 21st.
