Cavalry FC Head into USL2 Playoffs off Massive 7-1 Victory

Bryan-College Station, Texas (July 16, 2022)- The Brazos Valley Cavalry ended their Lone Star Division campaign in champions form on Saturday, July 16th against Round Rock SC, taking a 7-1 victory at Edible Field. This was the 3rd time these two clubs have faced off in the past two weeks, with the Cavalry winning both of the previous matches. Tonight’s 7-1 bombardment by the Cavalry FC was the club’s 2nd largest win of the season and a great way to head into the USL2 playoffs!

The 1st half saw the Cavalry charge to a 4-0 lead with little to no Round Rock resistance through the 1st 45 minutes. The scoring started in a historic fashion, with a penalty kick awarded to Ethan Stevenson that set him up to break the USL2 regular season goal record with his 19th goal of the season! After a seven-game streak without a goal, David Imbert scored twice in ten minutes, at the 33rd and 43rd minute off a Thomas Brulay and Ethan Stevenson assist respectively, to contribute to the Cavalry’s barrage. Henri Kumwenda scored his first goal of the match in the 41st minute, making this his 2nd game in a row with a goal, and making it a 4-0 game at halftime.

The 2nd half saw another three Cavalry goals and Round Rock scored their lone goal of the night right out of the gate in the 2nd half, Srihari Saravanan in the 49th minute. 2nd half sub Geber Chavez, in his first appearance for the Cavalry, scored in the 67th minute. Henri Kumwenda was the star of the show tonight, scoring off a header in the 77th minute and again in the 79th minute for his first hat trick of the season! Roberto Hernandez, Henry Bruer, and Abel Gebrekiros all recorded assists in the 2nd half in contribution to the 7-1 victory.
