Cavalry Win Mid South Division

Bryan/College Station, Texas – July 13, 2018 – From the start the Cavalry played like champions and by the end of the night, the Brazos Valley Cavalry FC won their first Mid-South Division championship after defeating Texas United 4-1 in front of the home crowd at Travis Field.

The Cavalry came into the game needing either a tie or win to clinch the division title and wasted no time taking the advantage. In the 12th minute, the Cavalry took a 1-0 lead after a great strike from Forward Brandon Guhl. The Cavalry then doubled their lead in the 18th minute when midfielder Angel Paita drilled it past the Texas United keeper to give the home team a 2-0 advantage. Texas United got a goal back in the 24th minute after Texas United successfully converted a penalty kick to make it 2-1. The balanced attack of the Cavalry answered quick as Carlos Viveros got another past the keeper to put the lead to 3-1 at the half.

The second half began with a near chance for the Cavalry in the 48th minute that was just out of the reach of the Cavalry attackers. Another near miss came in the 66th minute, when the Angel Paita hit the crossbar on a long free kick. The Cavalry would again break through in the 71st minute when Brandon Guhl picked up his second goal of the night on a great turn in the box to give us our final score of 4-1.
