Cavalry come from behind to draw

The Cavalry did take the lead on 14 minutes after a Devin Boyce corner was met by Dom Faletto who steered a header home into the right side of Alex Iglesias’ goal. Just four minutes later Mississippi were awarded a penalty kick after Andreas Charalambous bought down Victor Pimentel and the Brilla midfielder picked himself up and fired home his penalty down the middle of Chase Vosvick’s goal.

Cavalry re-took the lead on 22 minutes, when a simple Boyce pass fell to Kyle Edwards 25 yards from goal and he rifled a right foot shot in off the crossbar giving Iglesias no chance. The hosts were reduced to ten men in the 29thminute when an off the ball incident between Kyle Edwards and Duncan Storey resulted in the referee producing two yellow cards in quick succession for Cavalry’s leading goal scorer.

The second-half saw the visitors have a lot of possession in the early stages of the half and on 63 minutes they drew level. Fullback Arturo Astorga drilled in a low cross which Pimentel met and converted home from close range for his second of the game. Just 3 minutes later Mississippi took the lead when centre back captain Ryan Tyrer was left unmarked and he headed home at the near post from a corner.

Cavalry fought back into the match and with just one minute of normal time remaining managed to draw level. Substitute Tsubasa Takada drilled a freekick goalward which rebounded back off the post and Rico Contreras was quickest to react, and he fired home from close range to earn Cavalry a point.  Brazos Valley Cavalry are next in action on Wednesday 3rdJuly 2019 when we are on the road against Mississippi Brilla.
