The magic number is 13!

The hosts went ahead in the fifth minute with the first attack on the match. Winger Tsubasa Takada beat his marker McKinley Smith before playing a powerful ball across goal and Cyrus Harmon was on hand to head home from close range. Takada could have had a goal himself just minutes later. After combining with Kyle Edwards, the winger found himself clean through on goal, but his effort was well kept out by Mark Pelaez in the Corpus goal.

The game was very even, and Corpus managed to draw level on 18 minutes when centre-half Tevin Lessey met an Ollie Wright corner at the far post and powerfully headed beyond Cavalry goalkeeper Alex Fetterley. The Cavalry shot-stopper was called into action again later on in the half when Karlo Lopez won possession inside the Cavalry half and played in Salifu Jatta but his effort from inside the penalty area was well kept out by Fetterley.

The second-half continued with sides having possession and creating chances and on 67 minutes Cavlary retook the lead after terrific work from Rico-Contreras. The fullback lobbed the ball over his marker before playing a terrific ball over Pelaez to the far post and substitute Dom Faletto was on hand to nod in from close range. Cavalry were ahead for just five minutes though, as a longball forward beat the Cavalry defence and Noah Wagner beat the oncoming Fetterley to the ball and managed to knock it over the top of him.

Cavalry thought they had a penalty in the 86thminute after Jacob Evans was adjudged to have been upended and the referee pointed to the spot, but after consulting his other official the decision was overturned which meant that both sides had to share the points.

Brazos Valley Cavalry are next in action on Saturday 13th July when we host Albion Hurricanes at Travis Field. The night sees ‘kids go free’ with kick-off at 7.30pm.
