Cavalry Defeat FC Cleburne 1-0

Cleburne, Texas – May 27, 2018 – The Brazos Valley Cavalry FC defeated FC Cleburne by a score of 1-0 at the Depot at Cleburne Station in Cleburne, TX. This marked the Cavalry’s first official win of 2018 and first win in 2018 PDL play.

The lone goal of the game was scored by Cavalry player Miguel Velasquez in the 26th minute. At that point, the Cavalry were dominating the pace of play, however were struggling with communication issues and turning the ball over. In the first half, Cavalry forward, Brandon Guhl, went down with an injury and was attended to by the training staff but would later return to the match.

The start of the second half looked similar to the first, with the Cavalry again dominating possession and not allowing FC Cleburne to get any real pressure on goalkeeper Noah Abrams. However, in the last twenty minutes, the club played a more defensive shell type of game, and instead of pushing through to try to tack on another goal, they sat back and waited for the FC Cleburne attack to come to them. This almost was costly as FC Cleburne had a great chance on goal in the last ten minutes of play, but Noah Abrams was able to make the save en route to his first clean sheet of the 2018 season. Man of the match honors went to Left Back Quayyum Murana, who mixed a combination of attacking passing with steady defending that allowed for the Cavalry to pick up the road win.

The next match for the Cavalry will be this Saturday, June 2nd at 7:30PM at Travis Field. This will mark the first game between these two clubs in club history.
