Cavalry Defeat Texas United

Grand Prairie, Texas – July 10, 2018 – The visitors all but secured a position in the post season after seeing off the team from Grand Prairie with ease, and they got off to a flying start.

After just three minutes, Marcelo Palomino made a surging run in behind the United back three, and was clipped from behind just as he ran into the box, being awarded a penalty. The teenager fired his spot kick into the top left corner to put the Cavalry 1-0 up, scoring in every game he has played in his two seasons for the Cavalry. After a continuous wave of attack, the visitors were eventually awarded with a second goal after 24 minutes. Gregorio Romero conveyed his pace wing a brilliant run down his left wing, firing a cross into the six-yard box that Mason Schuster was on the end of to fire in from close range.

The first half ended on a sour note as captain Josue Palomino was brought down to the ground after being stamped on his calf, resulting in a reaction from his teammates and a scrap between both sets of players and coaches for a few moments.

After a needed break for both teams, the Cavalry started the second half the more positive, and following some good link up play between Beto Soto and Angel Paita, Thomas Menke found himself with the ball in the edge of the box, and he calmly slotted it in the back of the net, finessing it into the bottom right corner. The away side saw out the remainder of the game with ease. Man of the Match was left back Carlos Viveros, who covered every blade of grass and was ruthless in both attack and defense.

These two sides will meet again at Travis Field on Friday evening at 7.30pm, as the Cavalry will need just a tie to secure their play-off place.
